Description
This course aims to train delegates up to OFSTED and PFAA standards for First Aid for Babies and Young Children.
Objectives
On completion of the course, candidates will be able to recognise and deal with:
- The principles of First Aid
- Emergency Actions
- Unconscious casualties
- Non-breathing casualties
- A casualty whose heart has stopped
- Severe and minor bleeding
- Trauma
- Shock
- Burns & scalds
- Poisoning
- Bone, joint and muscle injuries
- Effects of temperature
- Childhood ailments and medical emergencies
- Administration of medication and record keeping
- Dressings and First Aid Kits
Prerequisites
Nil - however, delegates are required to be physically fit and have the aptitude and ability to cope with an intense course of study and practical activity. Previous attendance on a First Aid course would be an advantage.
Suitability
This course is intended for nursery nurses or people in charge of, or working with, babies and young children.

Qualification
The course will be assessed on a continual basis and the resulting evidence can be used for NVQ Assessment in Early Years Care and Education. Delegates will receive a certificate for 12 hour Paediatric First Aid.
