Use of Tourniquets and Haemostatic Dressings ½ Day
Who Should Attend:
This course is designed for those who already hold the full Level 3 First Aid at Work (RQF) qualification and who work in high risk workplaces.
This ‘Use of Tourniquets and Haemostatic Dressings’ course is designed to equip first aiders with the additional knowledge of how to deal with serious bleeds in a first aid situation and be able to treat catastrophic haemorrhages effectively using Tourniquets and Haemostatic Dressings. Following the addition of Critical Injury Packs in to the British Standard for Workplaces (BS 8599-1), the requirement for training on trauma products including tourniquets and haemostats has risen greatly. Training is advised for anyone who works in a high-risk environment with dangerous machinery, power tools or sharp instruments, typically encountered by those in construction, agriculture, forestry, mining, glass-cutting and industrial settings. However, training is also appropriate for anyone in a high-profile or public venue, like transport hubs, racetracks, airfields or sports arenas, which are at risk from acts of terrorism or mass-casualty accidents.
This course includes course materials, expert tutoring and practical exercises to give learners an in depth knowledge of:
• What is a Catastrophic Haemorrhage?
• Carrying out The Primary Survey
• When to use a Tourniquet and Haemostatic Dressing
• Different types of Tourniquets
• Application of Haemostatic Dressings
• Application of Tourniquets
Upon successful completion of the course each learner will receive a credit card sized certificate which will remain valid as long the learner’s original Level 3 First Aid at Work (RQF) qualification remains valid and up to date.
